Divine Intervention in Kenya

Bishop Dr. Douglas P. Muchiri
President, All Saints Church Alliance (ASCA-USA)

It is with deep regret that I write on behalf of all the Kenyans in the US to the President, the government, members of the bereaved families and all the people of Kenya in the unfortunate event of yesterday’s plane tragedy. No words can express the shock and grieve that has gripped all of us here in the US. Moreover, as Bishops and Ministers we also deeply grieve with our colleague Bishop Kago whose life was also claimed by this tragedy.

And granted that God does not do anything without first revealing it to His servants (Amos 3:7), we believe that God is sending a strong message to the President, the government and the people of Kenya to hearken to what God is so that Kenya does not end up as Egypt did when Pharaoh hardened his heart to God’s will.

It is ironical that although Kenya is a predominantly religious nation, yet this and other recent occurrences suggest that God is allowing judgment to fall on our beloved nation. This is a sure wake up call for all peace loving Kenyans therefore to come together and humble themselves, repent and turn to God so that God may avert calamity for devastating the country.

There is no short cut, we all need to come together regardless of our status in society, ethnicity, religious orientation, political affiliation or sex and gather in one accord and call upon the name of the Lord so that we can be saved. Failure to do this will only mean more tragedies.

I believe that the death of these peace loving leaders were on their final step to securing Peace in their constituencies, and yet now there is mourning where peace should be reigning. This is the message for all of us alike, Let Justice and Peace roll down like a River.

As peace loving citizens ASCA is willing and ready to lead the Kenyans including all religious leaders as well as political leader including the present Kibaki and former president Moi for a National day of Repentance dubbed the “National Day of Peace”. We strongly call upon the government to declare September 3rd as such a date when we will all gather at Uhuru Park for non partisan, and non-denominational prayers of repentance and peace for the Nation.

Friends, the power of prayer and intercession plays a significant role in the lives of all Kenyans and the political landscape of Kenya. For this reason, we call upon all Kenyans everywhere to fast and pray for the Kenya for only through God’s hand will Kenya see justice and peace majestically rolling down like a river

Here in the US, the Kenyans will be gathering in New Jersey on April 28th, 29th and 30th under the auspices of ASCA for a time of Prayer and intercession for Kenya.
